Welcome to the new website that aims to take away some of the mystery of using Android devices – especially for seniors. Much of the information here will benefit others of course but the main focus is to assist those of more advanced years and I count myself in that age bracket!
My first smartphone was an early Android called the HTC Hero. Since then I have owned or set up for others a growing collection of phones and tablets – all Android. Why not an iPhone or iPad? I take pride in telling everyone who will listen that I have never owned an Apple product of any kind. That may well change in the future – the new mini iPad for example looks very interesting. For me, it is about cost. I object to having to pay hundreds of dollars more for really the same functionality. Sure, the original iPhone was an amazing bit of technology and changed forever the mobile phone market, but other manufacturers have caught up, and in many cases exceeded, Apple’s products. I’m not an Apple-hater by any means but honestly, it’s simply that their products have never interested me.
But enough of Apple. If you are here, you probably own an Android device of some kind or are maybe considering which brand or model to buy.
If you already are an Android owner you may be saying to yourself, ‘ok, but what can I do with it and what the heck are apps?’
This is where this site comes in. The aim is to help users, especially seniors, get the best out of the technology. So come along for the ride and let us know how we are going in the comments area under every article (called ‘posts’). You can also subscribe to our news feed (that’s the orange RSS link at the bottom of every page) – but if you don’t know what that is, don’t worry we’ll talk about that in a later post.
