Hearts Deluxe vs Karman Hearts

heartsdeluxeHearts is a very popular game with all age groups, not just seniors. It’s one of those games that needs a good ‘A.I’ (artificial intelligence) engine to make the game enjoyable, especially if you enjoy the challenge of ‘shooting the moon’ or trying to win all the hearts plus the Queen of spades.

I have tried a few versions of the game and I’ve been playing and enjoying Hearts Deluxe (screenshot to the left) for the last few months. This game is ad-supported but they aren’t too intrusive. Layout is set permanently to landscape orientation and this does make card selection and play easier.
On the negative side, the opponents do play very strangely at times and never attempt to try to shoot the moon in my experience. In contrast, it is very easy for the human player to get all the hearts as the A.I opponents will never hold back a high heart to try to prevent you from taking them all.

Recently, I went looking to see if I could find another Hearts app that would give a more challenging game. I found a new Hearts game made by Karman Games and gave it a good workout. The result? Finally, I’ve found a game that is harder to win and gives me a real challenge.

This app is also ad-supported and can be played in either landscape or portrait orientation – I found that because the ads are placed at the top of the screen I get more playable area when played in portrait mode on my phone and the cards are large enough to be able to select easily. There are a good range of options to change the background colour, opponent names and pictures and even change the card faces to make them easier to see on your device.

As I have said, the game designers have done a good job with the A.I engine as the opponents will try to go for the lot and shoot the moon if given the chance (although a couple of times they had very low hearts and not many high value ones so it was a long shot!) and will hold back a high heart if I try to lead them in the hope of getting high value ones out – which is sneaky but what you would expect a good player to do.

Hearts Deluxe is good for the odd casual game or beginners who want to win easily but Hearts from Karman Games gives better players a much more challenging experience and ultimately is more enjoyable to play.

If you want to try a Hearts game for your device give them a try and let us know which one you prefer in the comments.
