willyweatherThere is a huge variety of weather apps out there, some work well for my home country, Australia but many don’t – especially ones that provide tide data. I am always on the lookout for a good tide times app especially for my phone but so far have had little success with the exception of the AUTides one but this doesn’t have a location close to us – and the ads are more intrusive in my opinion. There’s nothing more annoying than tapping a menu item to miss it (with bigger fingers it happens to me all the time) and end up opening up the Play Store looking at a game instead of the settings is there?

I have used the WillyWeather website on my laptop & PC for ages and knew they had an iPhone app but was delighted when they recently made an Android app available. What does it do? Put it this way, I’ll happily delete all my other weather apps and just use WillyWeather as it does the lot –  providing detailed wind, rain, tide, swell and UV forecasts, as well as moon phases, and sunrise and sunset times and includes BoM radar and satellite. What more could you want?

The app description tells you everything you need to know – but just install it and try it out for yourself.willyweather2

• Interactive rainfall radar and satellite, using Google Maps: pan and zoom like you’ve always wanted through the national BoM radar network, and continental satellite view to see exactly where rain is falling around you, or your favourite locations. Our mapping features provide more control and more detail than any other Australian weather source.
• Stunning, interactive tide, swell, temperature and wind forecast graphs which allow you to easily understand the conditions at your favourite surf beach, secret fishing spot or upcoming hike – in real-time, and up to seven days in the future. We’re particularly proud of our graphs, we pushed the boundaries to provide you with more context, and more detail for each weather type.
• A beautiful, simple and organised interface in which the weather data that is important to you is easy to find, consume and interact with. Our goal was to present accurate and relevant weather information to you, as quickly, and easily as possible.

The app is free but does include ads (not that I have seen any so far) that can be removed by paying A$1.99 for the ad-free version. Some comments in the Play Store mention that it is heavy on battery use, but I haven’t noticed this myself – let us know in the comments what you think and if you have run into this and it is a problem. At 18Mb, it may be a little on the large size for some users, but as I said above – I have uninstalled probably twice that size in 4-5 apps that this one replaces!

Sure, but as I often say the price of most apps is so low that if you find one you like it's worth paying a couple of bucks to the developer. Just my opinion...

I know you can pay for ad free version but prefer not to. The ads are VERY annoying and obtrusive!
