Several years back, my old tablet would often refuse to auto rotate the screen and so I used this app to fix the problem, but the app also has other very useful features.
This is the only utility that I have found that can reliably lock the screen orientation and override another app setting. The ‘Forced Auto’ mode for example is handy to use on tablets where some apps force portrait mode while you are holding the screen “upside down”.
It also allows using the launchers of some tablets in landscape mode where they previously could not be used.
A great feature is the ability to have a per application setting and also be able to create shortcuts to specific operation modes.
Other, similar apps, require the device to be ‘rooted’ which can be risky to do and beyond most casual users – this app doesn’t require this and is being updated to support the latest Android versions.
Features that have been added to improve usability include widgets and a status bar notification with shortcut buttons to quickly and easily change your rotation setting.
If, like me, you are sometimes frustrated with the way another app ‘takes charge’ of your screen orientation – give it a try and let us know what you think and if it has fixed your problems.
