Ok. I’m back! Review : Blue Light Filter- Night Mode, Eye Care

My last post was to advertise this blog/site for sale, but I have had second thoughts. Partly because I finally have more time on my hands to write again but also because of many encouraging messages from the faithful readers – thank you, I really appreciate the support.

Readers may not realise the time it actually takes to write even a short 200 word app review or tutorial post. I am a bit of a perfectionist and try very hard to keep grammatical or other errors out of every post and so an average post takes me 1-2 hours to write and proof read. Because of this, I’ve decided to post less frequently but continue to write longer reviews and other articles. Basically – quality not quantity!

Right, so let’s have a review – this time for something that might help save our tired eyes.

You have probably seen reports on TV and the like about the damaging effect on our eyes from excessive blue light. Studies also suggest that blue light can disturb our circadian rhythms which can cause insomnia. I sometimes wake early and can’t get back to sleep, so will often grab the phone to play a couple of games of hearts to get sleepy again. I have installed this app to (hopefully) reduce eyestrain and it appears to help. I also find that I can dim the screen more than is possible by just using the phones brightness control.

While the app has a longish name, Blue Light Filter – Night Mode, Eye Care, it does state in the title what it attmpts to do, namely filter out blue light to aid eye care and also provide more screen dimming to provide a true ‘night mode’. Most phone and tablets range of screen brightness is quite limited and I have found that in a dark room the lowest setting is still much too bright and can even wake my wife – which isn’t too good for marital harmony.

From the app description : Blue light filter is used to reduce blue light by adjusting the screen to natural color. Shifting your screen to night mode can relieve your eyes strain, and your eyes will feel at ease during night reading. Also blue light filter will protect your eyes and help you sleep easily.

● Reduce blue light
● Adjustable filter intensity
● Save power
● Very easy to use
● Built-in screen dimmer
● Eye protector from screen light

While it does have ads, I haven’t found them too intrusive but if they are to you the paid version is only around $4 and this removes the ads completely. If you are a bit of a night owl sometimes like me then give this app a try.

Price : FREE / around $4 to remove ads
Size : varies
Needs : varies
