FREE Office : Textmaker Mobile

FREE Office Textmaker MobileIt’s not often you find something completely free that performs perfectly and has no ads. FREE Office, made by German company Softmaker Software is one of those apps that I suspect many users will end up installing.

From their description: ‘Office: TextMaker Mobile is the only word processor for Android that lets you open, edit, and save all your Microsoft Word documents while preserving all formatting and content. It displays your documents exactly like they look on your PC – even using the correct fonts if you copy them to your Android device.’

The app has so many features that I find it amazing that it is free – as well as being able to edit Word documents just as you would on your desktop computer (albeit with the limitations of working on a small device), you can also export docs as PDF files, it has full spell checking, you can insert pictures and photos straight from your devices camera or photo gallery app and open and save them from your Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Evernote accounts.

At only 8.4Mb it isn’t a huge download either and with all the features available it isn’t surprising that it was a ‘Tech Hero Award winner in 2015. Even if you only occasionally need to open or edit a Word document this app is a must have in my opinion. Sure, there are other apps that have some of the features, but many are not free or add the ability to open other Microsoft Office program files. If you just want to open Word docs – this is the one to get.
