Many newer phones and tablets have a slider control to adjust screen brightness easily available in a slidedown panel or similar ‘quick settings’ area, but many don’t and this is where the Brightness Level app comes in very handy.
You just install the app as usual and then add the widget to any home screen you prefer. Then a single tap of the widget brings up a simple panel where you can either move the slider to the level you prefer or tap one of the preset levels – 25%, 50% etc or Auto if your device supports this as it usually requires a front facing camera to sense the brightness.
There is also a clever feature that can be turned off – but I don’t see why you would – that closes the app screen after you set the brightness level you want. This makes setting the level a two tap process and anything that makes it simple to do things on my phone is a big plus.
Screen brightness is one of the heavy drains on your battery, so it makes sense to set this as low as is comfortable for you to read the screen. Many devices have an Auto feature and this can also work well but I find that I often need to quickly set the screen to full brightness, especially when outside, then back to Auto again once I have finished.
The Brightness Level app is a simple and quick way to change a setting that many of us find we need to do several times a day.
