Five Hundred Multi Player

Five Hundred Multi Player game for AndroidA while back, I reviewed ARC Rowes Five Hundred card game and while playing it recently I got a message in the game that a multi player version has been released by the Australian publishers so I thought I’d better check it out. Like the single player version it isn’t free but $2 odd won’t break the bank and I like supporting developers who don’t have advertising in their games.

This version allows you to play the game against your friends from your tablet or mobile device through Google Play Game Services, as well as against the built in A.I on your device. You can decide if you want to play against or with your Google+ friends, or auto-match opponents and optionally use computer ‘bots’ to fill in if you can’t find enough opponents to play with. The app can receive push notifications when it’s your turn to play.

The multiplayer features means you can play matches against unknown players from all over the world – they don’t have to be known to you (the built in A.I partner sometimes drives me nuts when it assumes I have a great hand and bids 8 and we struggle to get 6 points! You can pause matches if you need to be away from technology for a while.

When you first start the game there is a screen that asks your permission to make your Google+ profile and game stats public on the web. As most of us don’t put anything personal on Google+ this isn’t a problem, but you have to accept the permissions before you can play the game.

It’s probably a good idea to try finding one or more of your contacts to play against as it can be frustrating waiting for people to play a card as it’s easy to forget what cards have been played and who has what if the game drags on too long. It would be a good feature to be able to prompt other human players to play a card (or maybe get their device to play a card for them!) I liked the way that you can play against just one human player and both have a computer partner.

Give the game a try if like me you are a 500 tragic – in my case far too many games played when we were supposed to be working!
