Matt must be flat out studying so I’ll add another game app review to keep you going until he finds some time to review some more for us at Androids4Seniors.
Canasta would have to be one of my favourite card games. Unfortunately you really need to play with 4 or more to get an entertaining game so I was happy to find that Karman Games who make most of the better Android card game apps also have a version of this great card game.
If you have played Canasta you will know that the best players keep a close eye on the cards played especially by the opponent to your left, so as you are playing against 2 computer opponents you have to be pretty sharp to have a shot at winning.
I found that if I set the opponent skill level down a few notches I have a half decent chance at winning and now after playing a hundred or so games I reckon I’ve learnt some real skills that I can take into the next real game we will play at my brother-in-laws place. He’s a demon player who hates to lose so I think this Boxing Day might be interesting!
I play this one on my phone and it is best played in portrait mode I find as in landscape mode it can be hard to tell who’s cards are whose when they are laid out. I think I (and my computer partner, who plays a little ‘stoopid’ at times, win around 50-60-% of the games so it is both fun and challenging. Actually I just checked the game stats and it says we have only won 53% of the games out of 247 games. Crikey I am addicted to this one…
I’ll have to get Matt to download and play it over in the UK, it might make him too homesick though as we have had many a long night playing together with him and his Dad.
The next game that I’ll try and find is 500 as I used to enjoy playing it at work years ago. If you have any recommendations for a realistic Android version let us know in the comments.
If you enjoy playing Canasta – or would like to get better at it as I did – give it a try and see if it helps you to become a better player too.
