Many seniors love Facebook as it enables them to keep in touch with friends and family, especially to view photos (and videos) of grandchildren. I am a very late adopter of Facebook, mainly because of previously reported lax security for it’s members and the companies concentration on it’s users being a product rather than customers – well this is my opinion anyway.
Tinfoil for Facebook is an Android app that creates a ‘sandbox’ (think of this simply as a safe place to ‘play online’ with improved security and privacy) for the Facebook mobile website in order to protect your privacy and to prevent Facebook from tracking your browsing history for whatever purposes they want to see this for.
As long as you’re also logged out in Firefox, Chrome or your Android browser of choice, Facebook can’t track any of your other browsing habits like which website you came from and where you go to next with cookies. The sandbox feature basically discards these so that there is no history to track.
Notifications, Friend Requests and messaging all work fine for me and I can view my timeline and like friends posts too, without seeing any ads, which is great. I can also edit many Facebook settings too of course, as the app provides whatever features are available on the Facebook mobile site. The app is also totally free too which is something I really like to see.
If, like me, you are somewhat wary of Facebook, then Tinfoil for Facebook might also give you more peace of mind. Give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments box below this post.
