Aussie Loo

aussielooWe are about to embark upon our adventure – doing the ‘Big Lap’ around Australia – and of course, there are a wealth of free and cheap apps available to help us ‘grey nomads’. I’ve mentioned a few here already, WikiCamps, the excellent ABC Australia apps and some weather ones. Click on the ‘Australia’ tag to the left to find the reviews here.

An essential requirement when on the road, especially for those of us ‘getting on’ in years – is to be able to find a loo (a common term amongst Aussies for toilet in case you don’t know). We’ve used the ‘Just In Time’ app for a while, but this one is worth a look too.

From the app description:
“Aussie Loo makes it easy to locate, find and search toilets in Australia only.
With Aussie Loo, you will be able to :
– Get the 10 closest loos near your current geolocation and follow your moves in real-time to reach your chosen location
– Plan your trip and find the 10 closest loos on the map, anywhere in Australia
– If you get the address, find the 10 closest loos around
– Get walking and/or driving directions to any loos using android google maps”

Info on loos was last updated in 2012, so there may be some missing or changes, but the data came from by the Department of Health and Aging which is financing the collection of toilet data throughout Australia. Good on them we say!

The link to this app and Just In Time are below. Give them a try and if you know of any other apps suitable for travellers, let us know in the comments.
